While dealing with North Korea, Park Geun-hye also sought to bring about a more cooperative regional strategic environment and find a path to solve Asia’s Paradox. The elements of her regional policy in this regard included pursuit of multilateral initiatives, notably the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative (NAPCI) and the Eurasia Initiative; improved relations with China to manage regional tensions and the North Korean problem; reconciliation with Japan based on an understanding of history; and a strong U.S.-ROK alliance based on a broad trust-based partnership.
